On
behalf of Tilly I would like to thank each and every one
of those people who helped him along his way home.
Without you all , Tilly may not have made it. The many people who looked
out for him, and those of you who leave food out - have all played
a part. The many calls of encouragement and the phonecalls from those
of you thinking you may have seen him or taken him in - I thank you
all - you gave me the will to carry on looking..
And for the Dowsers who played a big part, also for the lady on Watson
Rd, and Cats Paws, special thankyou

'Sabrina'
23rd October 2004- 22nd Dec.2004:Killington, Cumbria |
|
 |
'Lost
near to the Killington Lake M6 services where she ran into
the wood near the lake.
|
The
'phone rang at about 8:30 this morning. It was Malcolm from
Killington Lake Services to say that he had a cat in the
fox-trap, and that he thought it was Sabrina! I left Shropshire
as soon as I could and drove there – quite fast. Malcolm
was looking out for me, and showed me where to reverse my
car: the trap had been moved to the back of the restaurant
kitchens. I was still prepared to be disappointed: although
I was sure that it was Sabrina that I had seen on my last
sighting, it was possible that another cat might have been
caught. She looked a little different, with a flatter body,
and a very wet tail, and she was yowling wildly. I got close
and talked to her, and she sniffed my fingers. When I saw
her torn left ear, there was no doubt at all.
We loaded the trap into my car, and I got in with it, and closed the
doors. Once the trap was opened, she came slowly out after about a minute,
and was happy to be handled. She smelt (still does) very strongly of
fish! I transferred her to her travelling box, and, having thanked Malcolm – well
deserved bottles of wine for him and for John, who provided the trap – started
the drive back to Shropshire, which would take another three hours. She
was very noisy to begin with, and did her usual journey stunt of poo
and wee! (This had been our reason for stopping at Killington Lake in
the first place on 23rd October.) This time, I pulled in at Forton Services
to sort her out – with the car doors closed! We shared a chicken
sandwich.
As the journey went on, she became quieter. At one point, I was worried
that she was too quiet, and was planning to stop, but then there came
a reassuring squawk from the back. I stopped anyway, near to Quoisley
Lock on the A49, got into the back of the car, and gave her another cuddle.
The fish smell was as strong as ever.
We got back to Shropshire in twilight. Eric, our soft ginger, her brother,
sniffed curiously at her box when I met him outside. I brought the box
into the kitchen and heard her purring! When I let her out inside the
house, she went straight to the food and gorged herself on Purina. It
had been cat biscuits that had helped get her back – whenever I
had seen her at the Services, she had been nibbling at bait , and Malcolm's
brilliant ploy, following a sausage that we reckon she had hooked out
of the trap without setting it, had been to tip the whole lot of biscuits
that we had left him (a good fortnight's supply) into the trap. She must
have found that totally irresistible!
Eric doesn't quite know what to make of it. He must have thought her
dead, and we await Muriel's reaction. Eric has sniffed her – he
will have spotted much more then the fishy reek – and although
not aggressive, which he had feared, he is a bit nervous. Perhaps he
thinks he has seen a ghost.
As for Sabrina, it is rather like you have described with Tilly. We worried
in case her mind had been altered by 60 days of living rough and on her
wits. Not a bit of it! Treading, purring, chirruping, the works! She
recognised where she was immediately, and had the usual explore of the
house that she would do after a normal half-term at school. We will take
her to the vet tomorrow for a check-up, although she looks in great nick,
and to get a worming tablet down her (we find this almost impossible,
as she resists tooth and claw). We will keep her inside for a period
now, and I have bought a harness for travelling for the future.
What a girl – and she's back with us for Christmas. Thank you so
much for your help and support. We are both over the moon, and we know
that you will share our happiness

'Buster'
23rd Dec.2004 - 27th Dec.2004: St.Annes on Sea |
|
Buster
is a large black cat with a crumpled right ear who loves to
watch the visitors come and go from Easterleigh Animal Sanctuary
off Queensway, St.Annes.
Unfortunately he is very friendly and enjoyed getting into cars, and it
is thought this is what he did on Thursday 23rd December when he disappeared
from the Sanctuary.
Rather amazing - as it turns out
that Buster did indeed hitch a lift in a van, somehow
managed to disembark in Kilnhouse Lane was found and
taken to the RSPCA - Division Lane, and was picked up
by Easterleigh yesterday the 28th. December. The van
was on its way out of Blackpool and so Buster really
was lucky to have been returned so soon after the event.
This
was the second jaunt for Buster within the last 2 or
3 weeks, he really is a lucky cat. |
