Bird Flu has reached our shores
However there is no need to panic - a few commonsense precautions can make all the difference.
It would be a good idea to begin getting your cat used to the idea of being bought in during the early evening and kept in until after breakfast when there is less risk of them hunting the local bird population.
If you live near to infected areas say a 20/30 mile radius - then keep your cats in as a matter of course.
If your cat needs to be retrained to use a litter tray , then use compost for a few days initially.
Use gloves when changing litter and use dust free brands - avoid breathing in dust.
If dead birds especially water fowl are found on or around your property - consult DEFRA, your local police or environmental health as to the proceedures for disposal - keep animals away from the carcass.
